Mighty through God

“Thus the men of Israel were subdued at that time, and the men of Judah prevailed, because they relied on the Lord, the God of their fathers.”

‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭13:18‬ ‭ESV‬‬

This particular verse begins with the word “thus” which indicates that there is a story (or scenes) leading up to this conclusion. I trust you are intrigued to know what led the writer to make this statement and will be reading verses one all the way down. Go ahead. If you don’t, you will miss out on the joy this verse brings.

Now that you have read and are all caught up, can you just see the opposing armies facing each other ready to fight to the death. On one side stands the army of Judah with their king, Abijah. They had 400,000 able fighting men. On the other side stood Jeroboam and his army, 800,000 able troops. Twice the size of Judah’s army.

As the scene unfolds we hear Abijah declaring in verses 4-5, that though they (the men of Israel) had a vast army, Judah would be victorious because they had the Lord on their side.

Say what Abijah!?!?!?

He saw the numbers. He possibly knew about the ambush, yet He spoke from a position of confidence and trust that God was bigger than 800,000 men. Talk about faith.

The war ended with Judah being triumphant! Jehovah Saboath fought for His children and gave the enemy into their hands. Verse 17 reveals that they were able to slay – get this – 500,000 of the opposing army. They slayed 100,000 more than even their numbers.

WOW!

Let’s take a selah moment and do a David dance 💃🏾.

Friends, through God we are MIGHTY. It doesn’t matter if our challenges are against a mortal being, an inanimate object, or our greatest enemy of all time (Satan). We are mighty through God. So like Moses told the Israelites who felt cornered at the Red Sea (Exodus 14:13-14),

Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.

  1. Thanks sis for this reminder! God is all powerful and will always fight on our behalf. We need to walk in faith and confidence like Abijah knowing that He has already fought and won our battles. He is always aware of our needs! 💕

  2. I love these accounts of winning through prayer and trust in our Almighty. Jehovah Saboath, is a favorite aspect of God. I’m so grateful that “No weapon formed against us shall prosper,” as we follow His perfect leading – regardless the circumstance. Blessings ♥

  3. Now you already know I’m loving this….This is my jam right here, my passage, that word that touches my heart and then saturates my entire being…

” For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent…..The Lord highlighted this passage for me years ago, and said pretty much, “STAND ON IT!” And yes I’m STILL STANDING ON IT! My God!!

I WILL NEVER HAVE TO TRAVEL THIS WAY AGAIN. I WILL NEVER LACK AGAIN. I WILL NEVER HAVE TO FACE THESE TRIALS AGAIN…

I will eat the good of the land and I will have more than enough! Every place that my feet trod is mine. Everything I do will prosper! Have Your way in our lives Lord! You reign God!

  4. Our God is mighty to save. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds! Relying on God to fight our battles ensures our everlasting victory.

  5. First let me say HALLELUJAH for VICTORY!!! Hallelujah for your attention to this story! Hallelujah to Ruach Ha’kodesh for lingering this incident on your heart.. not a coincidence. This story is very and extremely relevant for today especially in these last days. We as a society want quick fixes, we want power in prayer and healing but don’t want to put in the time and obedience to ABBA. I could go on and on.. but we can all fill in what was not mentioned.

There are a few components to this story that is worth mentioning-

    1. Israel lost her way.. moved away from what pleases YahWeh (obedience etc) and chose idol worship!! ver. 8
    2. Judah chased away the foundation of their success.. the priest and Levites who offer prayers on everyone’s behalf ver. 9
    3. You bring in people who are “nobody’s (idol worshipers/identity stealers) to YahWeh, pagan worshippers! They fake offer up sacrifices and hope it looks like the real thing! Ver. 9
    4. You cannot turn from the truth and give YahWeh “fake/pagan/idol worship” and expect positive results!
    5. When YahWeh calls priest from Aaron’s bloodline only and Levite’s only to assist priest-to function for His work.. DON’T change the covenant!!!!! Ver.10
    6. These priest had rituals they had to perform to get YahWeh’s attention! Ver. 11
    7. Judah continued to be obedient to YahWeh and have not abandoned His laws and ordinances!! Ver. 11
    8. The priest blow the Shofar/trumpet a weapon of Spiritual Warfare.. an instrument that confuses the enemy and gets YahWeh’s attention!! Lord of Heavens Armies🙌🏾🙌🏾
    9. We cannot fight YahWeh and win.. YahWeh will not tolerate idolatry! He is a jealous God.. HE LOVES US. AND LORD SABOATH WANTS TO FIGHT OUR BATTLES!

    1. Beloved, your comment makes me want to grab my pencil and notepad and go re-read the passage. You have made such salient points that are worth revisiting over and over and over again. May we not like Israel lose our way. May we not chase away our foundation of success. May we not be people who act like pagans in our approach to our Holy God. May we not offer up false sacrifices and think that God will be accepting them. May we not turn from the truth by any means. We must seek for the old path, Study to show ourselves approved unto God and serve Him with all our hearts, minds, souls and strength. May we not “change the covenant”. What Yahweh has given us is from eternity to eternity. How foolish we believe ourselves to be to think we can institute another way that He already implemented. We must never abandon the Lord’s laws and ordinances. We must be obedient – especially when it hurts. We must sound our shofars (mouths and hearts) in praise. We must tune our voices to declaring the Mighty nature and deeds of our Lord. We must get put on the armor and get weaponized. We must submit to the Lordship of Yahweh. How dare we think we stand against the Lord of lords and think we can be victorious. Only those on the Lord’s side can win and we must chose who we will serve and it better be God.
Thank you for giving such a profound and detailed thought dear friend. May the Lord continue to bless you and fill you with wisdom that leaves even you astounded. Blessings continually!
