What does it mean to surrender to the Lord?

Theme: What does it mean to surrender to the Lord?

Our surrender to the Lord involves trusting Him with every part of our lives. This means there is no area that is off-limits to Him – we talk to Him about ALL our concerns.

“Don’t be pulled in different directions or worried about a thing. Be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering your faith-filled requests before God with overflowing gratitude. Tell Him every detail of your life.” Philippians 4:6, TPT

Surrendering involves casting all our cares on Christ in reckless abandonment. Yes, I said reckless abandonment. We intentionally decide to relinquish the feeling of anxiety and worry floating around in our minds, and embrace the surpassing peace given to us by the Prince of peace. We leave the issues with Him and do not pick it back up.

“Pour out all your worries and stress upon Him and leave them there, for He always tenderly cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7, TPT

Surrendering requires us to know that this act is ongoing. Because of our stubborn human tendencies, many times we do not get it right the first time. It is a repeated choice.

“Casting all your care upon him; for He careth for you.” The KJV rendering of 1 Peter 5:7 uses the word, “casting” which continually.

When we surrender, we purposefully follow all His footsteps and promptings to our hearts. We chose to be obedient. Many times, our choice to yield to His will leaves us not knowing the outcome. On the bright side, we can rest with confidence knowing the One who holds us tenderly, and is well able maneuver the outcome.

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” Matthew 6:26, NIV

Surrendering is intentionally refusing to worry about the problems of tomorrow or even today. We will deliberately take each challenge that comes our way to the Lord for His help and guidance.

So, will you join me in surrendering today?

"All to Jesus I surrender. All to Him I freely give. I will ever love and trust Him. In His presence daily live." Old Hymn

    1. It is my sister. Our very nature had been ‘wired’ to want our own way. But thanks be to God, who in mercy and love shows us how to surrender every part. He takes His time and leads us along the still waters. He says, “Manu, why don’t you give me this care, this relationship. I can handle it.” 😘

ABBA’s blessing and peace be yours continually my sister 🤗

  1. Reckless….good choice of words. 🙂 Had we not been reckless we would have been wrecked.

Love the intentional refusal part as well Dee. How often we think that the walk of faith will just somehow miraculously happen without our having to do anything? How far from the truth. If we are not willfully obedient to His instruction to not worry we will always default to fear.

All to Jesus. Yep. After so many years as just a believer I can finally sing that song truthfully, and with conviction.

    1. I love your last part, there have been times in the past where I begun singing this hymn and have had to stop because I knew I was lying. Whew!

As for the first, that certainly is true. It’s such a wonderful freedom to be reckless before our Daddy. If we don’t take this reckless pathway to Him, we will end up as you have pointed out, wreck—ed. 😉

  2. Surrender means we are willing to do life God’s way. We choose to follow His owners manual (the bible), ask Him for directions (prayer), and complete the good works He has prepared by His strength (Holy Spirit Power).

  3. A couple of years ago I shared two perspectives on “surrender.” One is of a bruised, bloody, half-dead soldier who has no choice but to give himself up to his enemy. The other is of a bride giving herself to her beloved on her wedding night. Perspective makes a BIG difference!
